Davenport Excavation was started in July 1984 when Doug Davenport left the family farm to start his own earth moving business. Doug had done many side jobs in the years prior and decided he had built up enough of a reputation to make a career change. Doug's  coach was his father George Davenport who was a dozer operator for most of his working career. George started operating at a young age in the military during World War II. George continued his career working for a developer in Connecticut building subdivisions. George's last job before retirement was working for the Rutland-Bennington county soil conservation program building ponds, ditches, and watershed management for local farmers.

Doug successfully ran Davenport Excavation for 32 years servicing the Lakes Region in Southern Vermont and Upstate

New York. Known best for installation, replacement, and repair of septic systems Davenport Excavation provided many other services for residential and commercial projects throughout the years.

In the spring of 2016 Doug sold the business to his oldest son Ryan who is currently the owner. Today Ryan runs the day to day operations and Doug is still involved driving trucks and operating. Their goal is to work closely with each customer to achieve the vision they have in mind. It is important to them to have a good relationship with their customers and work in a efficient and timely manner while keeping the idea of quality work at the forefront.

Ryan is a graduate from the University of Vermont in 2012 with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. Ryan spent 4 years after college working for a mid sized site contractor doing estimating, project management, survey/layout, and managing machine controls (automated machinery) for the company. Ryan gained experience in commercial, industrial and institutional site construction during this time. Ryan currently holds a Vermont State Licensed Designer BW for water and wastewater systems. Other certifications include Vermont Shoreline Act Certified Contractor, and Engineer Intern License.
